Have We Bartered for Another God?

Christianity closed its eyes to biblical reality and simplicity when it decided that two or three persons compose the one God. The promotion of this multiple Deity has been one of the greatest ideological successes ever accomplished. It was achieved with the help of coercion, the sword, torture and the massive weight of pressure from a coalition of clergy and the state joined in an unholy alliance, and benefiting from a mysterious concept. Calling itself the Holy Roman Empire, however, scarcely reflected its real nature. Anthony F. Buzzard, Charles F. Hunting (1998). The Doctrine of the Trinity - Christianity's Self-Inflicted Wound.
